Week of May 26-30: This week we turned our focus to learning more about the Our Father. We have been practicing this prayer in class but we had a few questions about what some of the words mean. So, we watched the following video to help us understand the true meaning of this prayer.
Week of May 19-23: Today we listened to a song about the Easter Story, since it is still the Easter Season, (which Mlle T and I were shown at the workshop we attended on Wednesday - the song actually starts around 1:30 or so) and spent some time reflecting, meditating, and reading independently while listening to some new songs.
Week of May 11-17: This week we focused on intentions after our class prayer.
Week of May 5-9: Education Week Mass
Week of April 28-May 2: This week we continued to discuss and explore why and when we change the table cloth on our Prayer Table (and what this means).
| JD says, "Miss Hodgins, can you take a picture? I'm being Jesus in the tomb." |
Week of April 22-25: We continued to discuss Easter and the resurrection.
Week of April 14-17: This week we discussed what palms are used for and Palm Sunday. We also took a look at some palms that had been kept in water and compared them to ones that had been left out to dry (great science talk!).
Week of April 7-11: This week we discussed what sackcloth is (and felt it) and why we put it on the cross during Lent. We also continued to discuss Lent and what it means as well as when it finishes.
Week of March 31-April 4: We continued to discuss Lent. We also began to explore the Stations of the Cross since they are now on display in the hallway near the office/gym which we walk by every day. We will explore this more in the future but there were several questions and comments now that they are on display.
Week of March 24-28: We discussed Lent and why this is a very important time. We also began to discuss what happens at the end of Lent (Easter) and what this means; not just a visit from the Easter Bunny :). We talked about the Last Supper and how Jesus was put on the cross but that at Easter he will come back. This is a difficult concept for many children to grasp so I have simply been focusing on the basics and keeping my answers to any questions very simple.
Week of March 3-7: This week we continued to discuss Ash Wednesday and to prepare for our Ash Wednesday Liturgy tomorrow.
Week of Feb. 24-28: This week we began to discuss and prepare for Ash Wednesday. We talked about what Ash Wednesday is, what it means, and what will happen during our Ash Wednesday Liturgy next week. This week we also discussed the importance of being a good friend and what this looks like. Through our discussion and story, one student asked what forgiveness really means. He said he knew what it was but not what it really means. We discussed this and did some role playing to demonstrate the difference between truly forgiving someone and just saying that you forgive them when you really don't. We also discussed the importance of forgiving people.
To end our liturgies each week, we get up and dance and sing. Here is the song that we have been using to end our liturgies lately.
